Work on Ladakh Himalaya
I am a research scholar working on Beetle diversity of Transhimalayan (Ladakh Himalaya) Region. I am a resident of the region (Ladakh). I was very keen to work on insects from my childhood, and got this opportunity of working on insects of the region i am living in. A few workers like great scientist M. S. Mani (http://www.ias.ac.in/currsci/apr252003/1146.pdf), Prof. Santokh Singh, Maheshwari and Dr. V. P.Uniyal (http://oldwww.wii.gov.in/faculty/vpuniyal/index.html) has worked on general insect inhabiting the area . ZSI has recently published a news letter mentioning the diversity of beetles inhabiting the area. the area needs to be explored as soon as possible to know and to conserve the diversity of insects inhabiting the region. There is no comprehensive information available on the
taxonomy, species diversity, distribution, population dynamics and ecology of
the beetles and as per report published by WWF- India Ladakh
especially the Kargil district is poorly studied in terms of its biodiversity
and potential impacts of climate change.
